Our Ladies Minor Cup team became All-Ireland champions last week. The finals series – quarter final, semi-final and final took place on consecutive days 7-9 September at Slieve Russell GC. The team was captained by Helen Setterfield and assisted by team advisor, Carol Blythe who acted as TC on final two days. The team took the trophy becoming the first team from the Ulster region to do so.

On the way to an all-Ulster final, the team of Patricia McDonnell, Moyra Evans, Karen Gowdy, Alwyn Higham and Sue McDonagh met Limerick’s Ballyneety Golf club in the quarter-final winning 4-1. The semi-final on Thursday 8 was against Kildare club, Cill Dara. A nail-biting match, this was taken to the 18th green and won by a single hole!

The Final

Friday’s match against Ballyclare club, Greenacres GC was a very exciting game, the top two matches were won 6&4 by Patricia McDonnell and 6&5 by Hilda Beamish the deciding match was won by Sue McDonagh on 16th hole, while the other two matches, Karen Gowdy and Bernie Trail were sill locked in tight competition. A truly exciting and memorable few days in county Cavan. Our squad was supported throughout by Lady Captain, Elana Patterson, Mr Captain, William Blythe and superb caddies. They were cheered on by a great turnout of supporters from Rockmount who came and enjoyed the super golf in splendid conditions. Members and friends who couldn’t be there followed remotely via Golf Ireland’s live scoring and on a dedicated WhatsApp group which kept them updated and in touch with any nail-biting action.

Congratulations team well played. We are so very proud.
